OBITUARY

Funeral services were held Sunday for Mrs. Charlotte Neal Walton, 96, widow of Darwin Walton, in the Cleveland L. D. S. church, with Bishop Vernon Adams presiding.

Mrs. Walton was born in Louisville, Ky., on October 16, 1840. She walked across the plains, arriving in Utah in September, 1854, and made her home with Bishop I. A. Abraham Smoot in Sugar ward.

At the age of 17 she was married at Provo, Utah, living at Heber, Utah later moving to the Tintic mining district and then to Missoula, Mont.

They arrived in Cleveland in the summer of 1882, where she had since resided.

She was a midwife in the pioneer days of Gem Valley and also was an ardent Relief Society worker.

Her husband died 28 years ago. Seven sons and daughters survive, Mrs. Mary Ann Covert, Thatcher; Millie Crossley, Holden, Utah; Mrs. Sarah Thomas, Seattle, Wash.; John B. and Chester Walton, Cleveland; Charles E. Walton, Thayne, Wyo.; at whose home she died following a stroke, while visiting. Also surviving are 63 grandchildren, 162 great-grandchildren and 14 great-great-grandchildren.

NOTE: Although the obituary lists her maiden name as Neild most of the records have the family name as Neal. Some show it as Neil also. The records also show that Darwin, her husband, had been dead for 20 years not 28 as stated in the obituary.
